Born and raised in the Carolinas, Betty Anglin Smith is known for her vibrant and electric landscape paintings of the region. Smith's first artistic training came from enrolling in art classes at the Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston, South Carolina. It was then that she found herself immersed in the process of creating a work of art. From then on, she dedicated herself to her painting, using bold brushstrokes and bright colors to define not only the physical nature of a location, but the feeling as well. Smith strives to make her works feel not only intimate, but spontaneous. She always tries to let pieces form naturally in the moment and avoid over working them or making them appear forced.

Smith's work has been collected throughout the United States, including the corporate collections of Walt Disney World, IBM, and Johnson & Johnson. She continues to live and work in Charleston, South Carolina.
